one of the things i said that i wanted to use this blog for from the beginning was a place to do show reviews. i feel like there isn't anywhere in boston or on the good ol interbews where i can see an honest fans (or not fans) review of live music in boston. more particularly, boston hiphop. i feel like over the past 5 years, the boston hiphop scene has unfolded to me in a variety of ways - most ways that i love. its also really ill being in a city known for conciousness and music - and always being a tour stop. its also rules that our friend works as the bouncer at the bar that our kind of shows stop at alot.
[ so without further delay: ]
pos never better tour- featuirng sims & mike mictlan of doomtree - the locksmiths
harpers ferry, allston rock city, ma. weather forecast: shitty snow & rainy mix 40 big D degreez.
pros: the locksmiths, man that lil mc with those big dreads can really kill it. their dj looked like a spitting image of evidence, and claimed that he was "too high to do the show". that is a good thing. seeing hiphop preformed live, and seeing ill people like sims slay the mic and really got the crowd going. i was definetly entertained and it felt so good to drink beer and watch live hiphop after being so sick for the past week.
cons: where the HELL did doomtree + pos find a following with the hipster scum kids of allston. holy shit i was surprised when i walked into harpers ferry and the place was BUMPING. and i mean that like ive never seen that place so packed for HIP-HOP. besides the distraction of those people and the pissed off bartenders, each set went on for 45 minutes. it was 12:50 when pos announced he had 4 more songs. we HAD to peace at that point.
im my opinion, definetly a solid show. wasnt too into the whole posse vibe of doomtree - but still was highly entertained and mostly impressed at ill lyrical skill of some pretty talented dudes.
